Pump the mixed-liquor (liquid-solids mixture) into the system and it will be filtrated by cross-flow filtration through the membrane. The permeate is discharged and the retentate (excess flow) is circulated back to the aeration or anaerobic tank depending on your current design. 

The system uses Likuid tubular Ceramic Membranes and can use different ceramic material compositions such as silicon carbide (SiC),alumina, titanium, and zirconium oxides, of different pore size distributions in the range of UF filtration.
